That section of the Bay Journal is bursting at the seams.

Over the years, it has expanded from a single page to its present three full pages, and portions of others.

In the last few months, we have resorted to reducing the size of the type in an effort to publish as many items as possible.

Then, grammar rules were loosened and incomplete sentences were accepted to help squeeze in even more.

We have run out of tricks and must now eliminate items and/or information.

For readers, this means shorter descriptions.

The goal is to include enough information to tell you whether an item is of interest or not and to always include a contact—phone number, e-mail or website—to follow up on.

We are also dropping clothing and equipment recommendations.

Volunteer cleanups and restoration projects almost always suggest long shirts and slacks, gloves, sturdy shoes, and if water is involved, apparel that can get wet or muddy.
